Alcoholics Anonymous

The UK web portal for all AA related issues:  professional information; information if you are struggling with an alcohol problem; local websites; the AA big book (web version of the handbook for recovering alcoholics); members area and general information about the organisation.

 

Portman Group

This organisation was formed by a group of drinks manufacturers and aims to promote sensible drinking, not just by drinkers but also by businesses and how they conduct their business. visit the site for more information.

 

Sussed About Drink

Although aimed at young people living in Sussex, this site has loads of info and advice warning on the dangers of alcohol. A drinkometer shows the effects of binge drinking and there are links to helpful organisations.

 

SMOKING

ASH

Action on Health and Smoking (ASH) is a public health run charity aimed at abolishing the harm caused to health by smoking.  This site includes information and statistics on the effects of smoking to health, information on campaigns against smoking and a section dedicated to quitting smoking.

 

NHS - Go Smoke Free

As you would expect from the NHS, this site is packed full of information on the myths and the risks of smoking, downloadable films on the culture of smoking and where to get help.

 

QUIT

This site is an independent site that aims to save lives by helping smokers to quit, so if you want to quit, click here for details on what happens to your health and your bank account when you smoke.

 

The facts about smoking

This site from the NHS warns how smoking can ruin your skin, teeth and hair and also lower sexual performance and health.

 

DRUGS

Channel 4 - Health - Drugs 

Everybody knows someone who's using – alcohol, drugs, cigarettes… this site gives the facts on everything from physical and mental health to the law through features and personal stories.

 

Narcotics Anonymous UK

This site gives details of online meetings where recovering addicts get together to support each other. Also provides information and advice even if you are not interested in speaking to anyone.

 

Sussed About Drugs

Although aimed at young people living in Sussex, this site has great general info for anyone with questions about drugs.

Take a look at this no-nonsense and frank guide to drugs. Listed alphabetically, each drug is profiled to give you the full picture. You can also email or phone Frank with any questions you have about drugs or find out where your nearest drug support centre is.

 

GAMBLING

Gamblers Anonymous 

As well as having a dedicated section for young people and students, this site asks you questions to help you find out if you are in danger of becoming addicted to gambling. It also details who to call or email for help.

Turning Point is a social care organisation that supports individuals and communities in the areas such as drug and alcohol misuse, mental health and learning disability.
